Chennai, June 15: With the condition of ailing Union minister Murasoli Maran receiving a "setback" in a US hospital, DMK president M Karunanidhi today pointed fingers at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi and Apollo hospital here for it and demanded a probe by the Centre into it.
The two premier hospitals, however, insisted Maran was given the "best possible" treatment before he was shifted to a hospital in the US.

Voicing concern over the condition of Maran, who is under treatment at a hospital in the US for the last seven months, Karunanidhi said Maran's condition received a setback a week ago.

He alleged fungus infection had developed while Maran was being treated at the AIIMS after he underwent a heart surgery. By the time he was shifted to the United States from Apollo Hospital here, Maran was totally paralysed.

"He is unable to come out from that condition despite treatment at the US. The Centre should order an inquiry into the method of treatment and reasons for the development of fungus and why he was paralysed," Karunanidhi said.

Karunanidhi said he would be writing a letter to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on this adding he had already told about the need for an inquiry to the Union health and family minister A Raja.
