New Delhi, Oct 14: Sounding upbeat about the potential of trade between India and New Zealand, the government on Monday said efforts should be made to tap emerging sectors like IT, education and food processing. The exports to New Zealand registered a growth of nine per cent during 2003-03 at 68 million dollar as against imports which declined by seven per cent at $76 million, additional secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Vinay Bansal, said.

Speaking at the eighth India-New Zealand Joint Trade Committee meeting which was attended by Richard Grant, deputy commissioner of New Zealand, Bansal expressed concern over the suspension of Enza programme for Himachal apples and sought its resumption.
Grant, on the other hand, wanted high tariffs on New Zealand apples to come down.
During the deliberations, both sides discussed possibilities of cooperation in education, food processing, civil aviation, fairs and exhibitions and information technology, an official release said. Bureau Report
