Agartala, Oct 19: A CRPF jawan has been killed and another seriously injured when National Liberation Front of Tripra insurgents ambushed a CRPF patrol at a remote area of South Tripura district, police said today. Two CRPF jawans of 83 Battalion were hit with bullets when the insurgents fired upon a CRPF patrol at Akcherri village last evening. A 15-minute gun battle ensued between the two sides, the police said.
While one jawan died on the spot, another jawan was rushed to Udaypur sub divisional hospital in a critical condition, the police said.
No casualty was reported from the insurgents side who fled with a self loading rifle (SLR).
Senior officials of the CRPF and police rushed the spot and a combing operation was launched in the area to track the insurgents.
This was the second ambush on the CRPF men since last week in the state.
Earlier, three CRPF jawans and a civilian were killed when insurgents of All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) triggered a land mine blast at a convoy at Atharamura hill range area of West Tripura district on October 13.
