The British currency dropped to a three-month low of 1.5781 USD, before trading at 1.5824 USD in Hong Kong from 1.5906 USD late Friday in New York.
Against the Euro, it weakened to a six-week low of 71.30 pence from 70.82. Trading may be less than usual because Japanese markets are closed for a holiday. "People used the political problem as a reason to sell Sterling," said Lionel Kwok of BOCI- prudential asset management in Hong Kong.
