New Delhi, Nov 03: The Delhi High Court today declined to entertain a petition seeking its intervention for the Election Commission to remove the alleged discrepancies and irregularities in revision of electoral rolls in a Delhi cantonment constituency after EC said it was trying to remove them before the date of nomination.
"We hope that the exercise (revision of electoral rolls) would be completed by November 14, the date of nomination. Therefore, we are not entertaining the petition," a bench comprising Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice A K Sikri said disposing off a petition filed by former BJP MLA from the constituency in this regard.
The court's order followed as EC informed the bench that it was trying its level best to look into the complaints and hoped to complete the exercise before the date of nomination.
While issuing notices to the respondents, the bench on Friday had sought information by today from EC on how much time it would take to remove the alleged discrepancies and irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.
The bench was hearing an appeal filed against the order of a single judge which had asked the respondents to speedily remove the discrepancies and irregularities in revision of electoral rolls in the Delhi cantonment assembly constituency.
The petition filed by former BJP MLA Karan Singh Tanwar has sought the court's intervention to carry out revision of electoral rolls in his constituency without any discrimination and bias alleging that presence of illegal voters and non-inclusion of the names of genuine voters in the list.
