Srinagar, Nov 16: Srinagar shivered in intense cold today as high altitude mountain ranges surrounding the Kashmir Valley experienced yet another snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains. World famous tourist-cum-ski resort of Gulmarg and other high altitude areas, which experienced first snowfall of the season two days ago, were lashed by heavy snowfall today, official sources said.

Higher reaches of Kupwara and Baramulla district along the Line of Control also witnessed moderate snowfall.

Srinagar and adjacent areas were lashed by rains bringing a sharp drop in the day temperature. Reports said Sonamarg on Srinagar-Leh national highway and Pahalgam-Amarnath route in south Kashmir also experienced heavy snowfall today.

The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh Highway has already been closed to vehicular traffic from November 11 for winter months.

The 11578-feet high Zoji-La pass along the highway experience heavy snowfall during winter forcing closure of the only surface link between Kashmir Valley and the frontier region of Ladakh for six to seven months in a year.
