Srinagar, May 16: Jammu and Kashmir government's efforts at reviving the economy of the state bore its fruits today when nearly a hundred exhibitors showed up at probably the first ever consumer country fair in the history of the Valley at polo grounds here.
There was a constant flow of inquiries even as the exhibitors were putting up their merchandise for display at the 10-day fair, Amar Singh, co-organiser of the trade fair said, adding that the state government was lending full cooperation to them for making the fair a success.
“We have been given permission to hold the fair. The state government has also made adequate security arrangements, this could just be the beginning needed to popularise the concept," he said. Electronic and home appliance stalls also drew good crowds as people enquired about the latest on offer.
"I did not expect such a good crowd on the opening day. If the trend continues, we can spread some butter over the bread", a local exhibitor said with a hint of skepticism that the first day rush might have been because of a public holiday. Bureau Report
