Pune, Apr 17: The Pune based National Institute of Virology (NIV) today confirmed traces of ‘carona’ virus, which causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), in a sample of a patient from Goa. This sample was sent by Goa Medical College for inspection and lab report. The suspect-patient was admitted in Goa with complaint of common fever.
A C Mishra, director of NIV, told reporters that he has submitted his report to the Goa Medical College, and to the Central government.
The name of the patient was, however, not disclosed but Mishra said that according to the report sent to Goa Medical College, this person had travelled from Hong Kong to Singapore to Mumbai and finally to Goa.
Mishra said that the traces of carona virus found in the sample were of a “mild” type and recovery of the patient was possible. Mishra informed that the test to confirm this deadly virus was of polymer chain reaction type and was accepted by World Health Organisation (WHO). Bureau Report
