Itanagar, Aug 06: The Gegong Apang government has decided to repeal the controversial Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act 2002. The Cabinet in its first meeting yesterday, took the decision to scrap the act, United Democratic Front spokesman and State Power (electrical) Minister Lijum Ronya said today.
The misuse of the act by previous Mukut Mithi government prompted the Cabinet to repeal it, Ronya said.
The government was also likely to withdraw the 'Operation Hurricane' which was launched in 'disturbed' parts of the state, he said to a question. The anti-insurgent operation, which was launched by the past regime, did not meet with much success as the police and security forces remained confined in camps set up in schools, thereby hampering the academic session of the students, he said. "It is likely to be withdrawn and schools reopened," Ronya said. Bureau Report
