Lucknow, Aug 23: Accusing the Centre and state governments of not doing enough to combat the menace of terrorism in the country, VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia today claimed that terrorists might attack important leaders and vital locations in the near future.
Referring to the ban imposed by some state governments on his visits, Togadia told reporters here that at "a time when the governments should be fighting the jehadi terrorism, they appear more interested in fighting me".
The firebrand VHP leader claimed that he had credible information that terrorists could attack important leaders and vital installations like schools, power houses, business establishments in the near future, adding the intelligence bureau too had the information. Charging the Union and state governments with "not doing enough to tackle the menace of jehadi terrorism and instead fighting the tridents", Togadia said that despite having the information the government was "not acting".
"We will expose the political leadership if the country leads to anarchy because of the large scale terrorist strikes," he said.
When asked as to why instead of sharing his information with the government he was passing it on to the media, Togadia said he wanted to "build public pressure on the government to force it to act".
Asked whether he had spoken to the Prime Minister or the deputy premier in this regard, he said that he was not in regular contact with them. Criticising the ban imposed upon his visits by some state governments, Togadia alleged that they had "imposed the ban for getting Muslim votes".
Observing that he had been given relief by the courts whenever bans were imposed upon his visits, he said the VHP would approach the high court to challenge the Bihar government's decision in this regard.
Stating that he too has a right to speak, the VHP leader claimed there was nothing wrong in distribution of tridents.
"Even the Jodhpur court had ruled that trident was not a weapon but the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot thinks that it is," Togadia added. Bureau Report
