Indian wrestlers qualify for Athens Olympics
Chandigarh, Sept 19: Indian wrestlers Sunil Kumar(60 kg) and Sujit Mann (74 kg) have qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Chandigarh, Sept 19: Indian wrestlers Sunil Kumar(60 kg) and Sujit Mann (74 kg) have qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
The two, according to Wrestling Federation of India president M S Malik here today, attained fourth and eighth position respectively at the 37th senior world free style wrestling championship held at New York from September 12 to 14. Despite tough resistance, the two maintained their pressure in the global competition and achieved the rarest distinction by qualifying for prestigious participation in the Olympics after a gap of 12 years. The performance of Indian wrestlers during global competition was also comparable with that of 16 years ago.
Complimenting the two wrestlers, Malik, who is also Director General of Haryana Police, expressed the hope that Indian wrestlers would win medals in the 2004 Olympic to bring laurels for the country.
