Multan (Pakistan), Sept 07: Pakistani captain Rashid Latif has been banned for five one-day internationals by International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Mike Procter for unfair play during the third and final cricket Test against Bangladesh in Multan. Procter announced his verdict today after having a 45-minute hearing with Latif, Pakistan manager Haroon Rasheed, Bangladesh manager M A Latif Khan and the two umpires, Russell Tiffin of Zimbabwe and Asoka de Silva of Sri Lanka.
Pakistan and Bangladesh played their third Test in Multan from Wednesday to Thursday. "As captain a lot of responsibility falls on Rashid Latif and he committed a serious offence by claiming that (unfair) catch which constitutes unfair play and a level-three offence of ICC code of conduct (offensive and penalties). Therefore, Pakistani captain shall be banned for five one-day internationals," Procter said.
"Latif has the right to appeal against the verdict," he added.
Latif caught Bangladeshi batsman Alok Kapali off pacer Yasir Ali on the third day (Friday) of the third Test against Bangladesh in Multan but television replays showed he dropped the ball while tumbling on the ground. The Bangladesh team lodged the official complaint with Proctor on Saturday. Bureau Report
