Kolkata, Aug 28: Over 200 scientists and academicians would converge here today to formulate guidelines on the operation of ISRO's exclusive educational satellite 'Edusat' scheduled to be launched within the next six months.
The seminar 'Edusat' would deliberate on the various aspects of ISRO's Gsat-3 named Edusat and come out with concrete working proposals for the 72 channels proposed to be
aired by the satellite, West Bengal College and University Teachers' Association (WBCUTA) general secretary Anil Bhattacharya said.
"There are a lot of apprehensions in academic circles over the manner in which the Edusat project would be implemented. This seminar would aim at resolving all the grey areas in the issue," Bhattacharya told a news agency. The issue of feeding software to the proposed channels, the end users and the huge manpower required to back a massive project of this order would also be part of the discussions, he said.
The seminar is being organised by the WBCUTA along with the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).
Academicians would formulate a set of guidelines on the most important aspects of Edusat at the end of the meet for smooth operation of the satellite, he added. The meet would be attended by Vice-Chancellors of Universities of Calcutta, Jadavpur, Kalyani as well as experts from the Bengal Engineering College and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
