Ahmedabad, Aug 03: Amid the controversy over the safety of MiG-21 aircraft, senior officials of Indian Air Force today described it as one of the best aircraft during war situation. Air Marshal S K Malik of SouthWest Air Command (SWAC) told the reporters that the MiG-21 was still one of the best aircraft with the Indian Air Force, especially the 125 aircraft upgraded recently.
Malik said that 75 per cent of the recent accidents of MiG-21 were due to "human error" and this was seriously considered by the IAF.
In Jamnagar, speaking to the reporters at the air show, Sqd. Ldr. Amanjit Singh Heer said that the MiG-21s are not "flying coffins" for the Indian Air Force as being dubbed in certain quarters.
Sqd. Ldr. Heer said that flying MiG was as safe as flying any other aircraft.
