Dhaka, Aug 04: A chargesheet has been filed against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with five others for purchasing a frigate from South Korea at a loss of around us dollar 100 million during her tenure, a report said today. The chargesheet was submitted yesterday to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dhaka after a year long investigation by the Bureau of Anti Corruption (BAC). In the chargesheet, BAC has accused six people including the main opposition leader Sheikh Hasina of arranging the purchase deal of dw 2000h frigate for Bangladesh navy causing a loss of Taka 511.17 crore to the government exchequer, a report. Former chief of Bangladesh Navy Rear Admiral (Retd) Rear Admiral Nurul Islam, two senior officer of Navy and two prominent businessmen are the other accused in this case which was filed on August 7 last year, the report said. It charged that Hasina had tried to approve the purchase deal from Daewoo corporation of South Korea by signing the project document on a back date, but following objection of the Finance Ministry was compelled to re-tender the bid.


A press release of BAC said the accused took all measures that the Korean company got the deal even though it was not the lowest bidder.
