Mumbai: The Ministry of External Affairs announced the commencement of the online application of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2016 on Wednesday. The Yatra is planned between June 12 to September 9 through Lipulekh and Nathu La.

Extensive trekking (roughly about 200 kilometers) is involved as Yatris will have to travel via the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand. The estimated cost per person is Rs 1.6 lakh. The holy yatra will be conducted in 18 batches of 60 pilgrims each.


The route via Nathu La Pass in Sikkim will be conducted in 7 batches of 50 pilgrims each. The Yatra via this route is motorable and will cost about Rs. 2 lakh per person.


The applicants can opt for either of the routes. However, applications made by senior citizens will be given priority for the Nathu La route.
