New Delhi, Oct 12: It's 'Go Goa' at the 34th International Film Festival of India being held here, with festival regulars looking forward to the event moving to the coastal destination and no tears being shed for Delhi losing out as the venue. The decision to take IFFI out of Delhi ought to have been taken long back as no major international film festival is held in the political capital of the country, except for London, said D Mukhopadhyay, director, NFDC and now also in charge of the Mumbai International Film Festival.
"I had been saying for many years that a film festival should ideally be held in a movie-making centre, and in the case of an international film festival, the national capital is a big no."
"Washington or Paris do not host an Intnernational film festival," Mukhopadhyay said, adding London's case is understandable as it has made a massive cultural contribution.
The IFFI in the past has been taken out of Delhi to other centres, but now that it shifts permanently to Goa, other cities in the country will not get a chance to host the festival, which according to actor-turned-director Amol Palekar bodes good for the event.
Terming the decision to take the film fest to Goa "a good move", Palekar said now the festival will cease to be a "touring circus".
