New Delhi, Nov 26: Global automobile major Daimlerchrysler's flagship Actros range of trucks are expected to hit the Indian roads by the first quarter of next year, a senior company official said. Daimlerchrysler India corporate planning and controlling head Klaus-Peter Arnold told reporters that currently the homolgation process, which involves obtaining local certification for vehicles to ensure compliance with domestic automotive norms, was on and they expected the process to take a few months.
''We are bullish on India and the growth of the commercial vehicle segment with the heavy infrstructure projects like road building currently underway,'' Arnold said on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit organised by the World Economic Forum and the CII.
He said the company, which currently manufacturers Mercedes cars in Pune, would initially bring in the trucks as completely-built units (CBU).
''However, if the market acceptance to our products is encouraging, we may look at routes other than the CBU form,'' he said.
Asked what range of trucks the company would be bringing to the Indian market, he said it would be the over 400 hp products.
The Actros range of trucks and tractor trailers is Daimlerchrysler's best-selling product globally, with sales of 2,60,000 since launch in 1996.
