Beijing, Feb 19: A total of 10.117 million Personal Computers (PCs) were sold in China last year, generating sales of 9.41 billion dollars. This was revealed by a report on the PC market released here by CCID Consulting, a leading think tank on the development of the information industry in China. Of the total PC sales, desktops numbered 9.077 million, portables 805,000 and PC servers 235,000, said the report, adding that the sales of portables increased sharply last year, up 39.7 per cent over the previous year.

However, according to the report, the increase in China's PC market slowed last year compared with 2001. The report said China-made brands, like Legend and Founder, occupied over 90 per cent of China's PC market.

However, the report pointed out that just 11.6 per cent of urban Chinese households possess PCs. The report predicts that as many as 30 million PCs will be sold in China in the next five years. Bureau Report
