Ajmer, Aug 10: The population of the endangered Great Indian Bustard has shown an increase in Sokalia area here, considered the main habitat of the big bird, official sources, quoting the latest census, said today.
The two-day census of the bird, completed yesterday, enumerated 52 Great Indian Bustard in 33 villages spread over 526 km of the reserved Sokalia area, sources said here. The new census reported an increase of 19 birds in the area over the previous census.
The Great Indian Bustard was declared a state bird two decades ago after serious concern was raised over decrease in its number. Bureau Report
