Jerusalem, Sept 10: At least seven people were killed and around 40 others wounded late yesterday in a suicide bombing by the entrance of a cafe in west Jerusalem, medical sources said. The blast came just hours after another suicide bombing close to a military base near Tel Aviv left at least seven people dead, as well as the bomber. They did not say whether the toll included the bomber whose attack devastated the Hilel cafe on Hemek Refaim Road.
Police said that a security guard had tried to prevent the attacker from entering the building. He then blew himself up outside the cafe.
Ambulances rushed to the scene to treat the wounded, several of whom were said to be in a serious or critical critical condition.
"I looked up and saw somebody with something that looked like a crate on his back, under his clothes," an eyewitness told Israel public television. "But within a second everything blew up."

Israel has been placed on a high state of alert in the aftermath of a failed attempt to assassinate, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the spiritual leader of the hardline Hamas movement.
Yassin warned after the attack on Saturday in Gaza that Israel would "pay a high price" for the attack.
Dore Gold, a senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, said the suicide bombings were the result of the Palestinians' failure to honour their commitments to the internationally backed peace "roadmap".
