Mumbai, May 19: Taufiq Shahul Hamid and Hasib Zuber Mulla, Ghatkopar bomb blast accused and suspected members of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), were today remanded to custody till June two by a special court here. While Hasib Zuber was remanded to police custody, the other one was placed in judicial remand. Both were produced before the designated judge A P Bhangale.
Taufiq alias Chhota was brought on April five from Chennai by a team of mumbai police on a transit warrant and booked under Pota in Ghatkopar bomb blast case.
Taufiq, a close associate of prime absconding accused Abu Hamza, had participated in the conspiracy to create a powerful blast in a bus at suburban Ghatkopar on December two in which two persons were killed and 30 injured.
He was arrested in Chennai in October last year in connection with another case. As mumbai police learnt about his involvement in Ghatkopar explosion, they sought his custody from a Chennai court.
He is charged with IPC Sections 120-B (conspiracy), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intention) read with Pota provisions.
Taufiq was an employee of a hotel in Chennai and is facing charges in three criminal cases, police said.
Hasib Mulla is the second Mulund bomb blast accused after Saquib Nachan to be arrested in Ghatkopar explosion. With the arrest of Nachan and Hasib, police has established links between the two blasts.
Hasib was arrested on April 17 and was placed in judicial custody in Mulund explosion case before his arrest afresh in Ghatkopar bomb blast.
