Srinagar, Feb 21: Congress on Saturday said the rising unemployment among the youth of the country and a special programme for farmers would be the focus of its manifesto for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Unemployment among the youth tops the Congress' agenda for polls, Congress general secretary Ambika Soni told reporters in Srinagar. Soni said the employment generation scheme implemented by the Congress government in Maharashtra would be implemented on a nationwide scale if the party came to power at Centre. We are drafting a programme under which every family in the country will have at least one earning member and it will be included in the party's manifesto which will be finalised in a few days, she said. A special programme for farmers of the country would also be formulated so that their condition is improved as well. Nearly 4,000 farmers have committed suicide during the five-year rule of the NDA-government at the Centre, she claimed. Flaying the feel good slogan of BJP, Soni said Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani had admitted that there was no feel good factor among the farmers of the country. On the 'India Shining' ad campaign launched by the government, she said the BJP-led government was going ahead with the campaign even after the newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner of India had suggested the government should refrain from using so much public money on it. Don't go by the campaign, many of the credits claimed by the government were projects started or planned during the Congress governments, she claimed. Bureau Report
