Kolkata, Nov 11: The West Bengal government today ordered a departmental probe into the incident in which a patient died after sustaining burn injuries at a hospital in
North 24-Parganas district this morning.
Announcing this here, state health minister, Surjya Kanta Mishra, said the chief medical officer of health of the district had been sent to the Ashoknagar Hospital to inquire
into the matter along with the police and other senior officials. He also apprised the chief minister of the matter.
After the state government received a final report, a senior official from the health directorate would also visit the hospital tomorrow, Mishra said. Quoting a preliminary report, the minister said that there was no lapse on the part of the hospital authority, particularly the doctors and nurses who had promptly attended to the patient.
Mishra said that the mosquito net in which the diabetic patient, Gauranga Pal, was sleeping caught fire and he was burnt leading to his death. The preliminary report said that Pal's habit of smoking led to the fire.
