Bangalore, Sept 13: The All India Amateur Boxing Federation today decided to give thrust to junior boxing in order to spot young talent and organise first-ever inter-zonal events to promote the sport. The general body and executive meetings of the AIBF held here on the sidelines of the 50th senior national boxing championship decided to conduct the first all India inter-zonal boxing championship at Itanagar during third week of March next, AIBF president Abhay Singh Chautala told reporters.
The west zone championship would be held at Rajkot in October, north zone at Simla in November, east zone at Gangtok in November and south zone at Vishakapatnam in December.
Two teams from each of the four zones would be invited to the all India inter zonal championship and the host states would have the advantage of fielding two teams, Chautala said.
He said the Chaudhuri Devilal memorial boxing championship would be held in Haryana from April 4 to 12 next year and Haryana would also host the second Asian women boxing championship from October 18 to 24 at Hissar.
Chautala said Goa would conduct the international invitation boxing championship from September 30. At least ten countries including Khazaksthan, Thailand, Philippines, Hungary, Qatar, Malaysia and Sri Lanka had confirmed their participation.
