Kathmandu, Oct 13: At least 11 Maoists were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Nepal, where two letter bombs exploded causing minor damage. The defence ministry said five armed rebels were killed in Naubasta area of Banke district, two in Rampur and Bilaspur areas of Kanchanpur district, three in Duwagaon and Bijulikot area of Ramechhap district and one in Baduwa area on the border between Jhapa and Ilam districts.
Socket bombs, guns, pistols, explosives and combat dresses were also recovered during search operations carried out by security forces in different parts of the country.
Two letter bombs went off in Kathmandu today causing minor damage, a private radio channel said.
A letter sent to former chief of army staff Satchit Shumsher Rana exploded at his house at Jorpati village in Kathmandu today causing no damage, the Kantipur FM radio said.
Similarly, a letter sent to former karate champion Jagat Gauchan at Dhapasi on the outskirts of Kathmandu exploded causing minor injury to Gauchan.
Though no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, police suspect the hand of Maoists.
Kathmandu valley police office has issued a notice today asking the people not to open any suspicious letter and inform the police if they receive any suspicious letters from unidentified persons. Bureau Report
