Chennai, July 07: DMK today sought Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s intervention to stop the `unconstitutional acts` of the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu by directing the Attorney General of India to appear before the Supreme Court to protect the constitutional rights of the striking state government employees.
Chennai, July 07: DMK today sought Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's intervention to stop the "unconstitutional acts" of the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu by directing the Attorney General of India to appear before the Supreme Court to protect the constitutional rights of the striking state government employees.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, DMK president M Karunanidhi said that about two lakh employees have been summarily dismissed by the state government without an opportunity to explain their case and thereby lakhs and lakhs of "families were suffering both mentally and financially".
"As I feel that the existing situation in Tamil Nadu may lead to the failure of the constitutional machinery, I request the Prime Minister to instruct the Attorney General of India to appear before the Supreme Court suo motu to immediately put an end to the unconstitutional acts of Tamil Nadu government, without any further damage to the Constitution of India and to restore the constitutional rights of the striking government employees," Karunanidhi said.
