New Delhi, Feb 11: You can take Ajay Jadeja out of cricket but you can’t take cricket out of the flamboyant batsman. “It is my life-breath. The Bollywood cameo came later, cricket has made me what I am today,” declares the former vice-captain as he signs a huge good-luck card for India put up by Sheel International, a week after the Delhi High Court set aside a ban imposed on Jadeja for his alleged involvement in match-fixing. With the World Cup gathering steam, Jadeja is fervently hoping that the Indians spring a few surprises on their South African safari. “The World Cup is an amazing roller-coaster that manages to bring forth a new champion every four years. In 1983, nobody could have put Mohinder, Roger and Madan in the ‘players to watch out for’ list. In 1987, Steve Waugh was the unlikely hero; in ’92, Inzamam was a revelation and in 1996, Sanath Jayasuriya took the Cup away from others. In 1999, Lance Klusener took everybody by storm. So, one can expect new stars on the horizon this time round too.” No, Jadeja won’t play cheerleader in South Africa, instead, he has donned the hat of an analyst with Zee TV for a show to be co-hosted by Zaheer Abbas. “Zed and I are stationed in Delhi for the duration of the Cup.” The slog is showing in his celluloid innings too “Kashish, with Celina Jaitley is nearing completion and Pal Pal Dil Ke Pas releases after the World Cup,” he says. But for the next one month, the man who hit Waqar Younis for 22 runs in one memorable World Cup over on March 9,1996, will root for India from the bottom of his heart!
