By-poll for two assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Sadabad and Haidergarh, ended on Saturday amidst allegations of large scale rigging by opposition with a heavy turn-out of 60 to 70 per cent of voters in Haidergarh from where state Chief Minister Rajnath Singh is seeking elections.

Chief electoral officer of the state Noor Mohammad told newspersons in Lucknow that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere and the polling passed off peacefully. A total of 15 complaints of minor nature from various opposition parties were received by the commission and the report of the respective sector magistrates was awaited.
In Sadabad in Hathras district, polling passed off peacefully with over 50 per cent turn-out of voters, he added.

District magistrate Anita Raj Singh told PTI in Haidergarh that BSP MLA of Bacharwan Shyam Sundar Bharti was taken into custody for attempting to intimidate voters.

Meanwhile, the major opposition parties Samajwadi Party, congress and BSP have charged the ruling party with large scale irregularities and demanded countermanding of elections there.

Election commission has already expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of district administration of Barabanki covering Haidergarh and said that the result of the constituency would not be announced without its written permission. It had also ordered the suspension of two police officers for violating the model code of conduct. Bureau Report
