HP to strengthen milk production, asks Centre for grant
Shimla, Sept 14: The Himachal Pradesh government has asked the Centre for a grant of Rs 54.17 crore under the integrated milk development project and efforts were afoot to bring about a white revolution by expanding various activities of dairy farming, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said today.

Addressing a gathering at Nither village in Kullu district, he said the state has also proposed construction of two milk plants of 20,000 litres capacity in Una and Rampur
districts besides constructing mini dairy plants at Nahan, Chamba, Rohru and Maryog under HP Women Dairy Project.
A proposal of Rs.4.93 crore has also been submitted for implementation through village development agency. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a chain of 17 dairy plants in outer Seraj area of Kullu district and inaugurated bulk milk cooling system established by milkfed to boost dairy farming in the areas.
Noting that 50,000 milk producers were associated with the state milk federation, he said they were availing various benefits to improve their economic condition.
Out of 291 co-operative milk societies 36 were being managed by the women, he said adding over 30 new dairy societies had been registered under the milk federation of the state during last three months. The state has also made necessary budgetary provisions to open 136 new veterinary health institutions in the state during the current financial year.
A rabbit farming project was being implemented with the financial assistance of united nation project and Central Wool Development Board, he said adding angora rabbit farm project was being implemented in Sirmaur and Kullu districts.
