Dehradun, Oct 06: (pti) continuous landslides which have created havoc in Uttarkashi for the past 12 days, completely disrupted telephone services today even as authorities evacuated 2893 people to safer places so far. Landslides have disrupted wireline telephone services, destroyed 43 buildings including government offices and private houses in the town with the total loss of property being estimated to the tune of Rs ten crore, SDM Uttarkashi Mahendra Prasad told news agencies.

However, the wireless telephones were working normally, he said adding efforts were on to restore the landline telephones.

Water, electricity and other essential supplies remained normal in the ancient town in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Schools and colleges in Uttarkashi would remain closed till Oct 11, official sources said.
