New Delhi, Sept 17: India's tractor sales fell by 17.8 per cent during April-June 2003 as poor rainfall last year and non-availability of cash with farmers continued to hit companies like Mahindra and Mahindra, Punjab Tractors, Eicher, Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) and Sonalika. The sales declined to 36,927 units from 44,972 units in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, data released by the Tractor Manufacturers Association showed on Wednesday.
Sales in the world's largest tractor market had slipped by 25.13 per cent during 2002-03 to 1,60,969 units.
The decline was witnessed in all the segments, including the highest-selling 31-40 horse-power segment which suffered a 26.3 per cent drop at 18,672 units during April-June 2003.

Sales in the entry-level 21-30 HP segment went down by 13.4 per cent to 8,352 units but in the 41-50 HP segment, it stood higher by 13 units at 7,721 units during the period. Bureau Report
