Ahmedabad, Oct 03: After being in coma for over a
year, National Security Guard (NSG) black cat commando and
`Kirti Chakra' awardee for his valiant role in the Akshardham
temple terrorist attack, Surjan Singh Bhandari is all set to
be shifted to New Delhi tomorrow evening, family sources said
here today.
Bhandari is expected to leave for All India Institute of
Medical Science (Aiims) at Delhi, along with a team of senior
officers coming from the NSG, by tomorrow night in an Indian
Airlines flight. Hectic preparations are on in this regard,
Surjit Singh, brother of the comatose commando, told reporters.
Superintendent of civil hospital Dr Anil Chaddha said
that at least three senior doctors from the neuro surgery
ward, where Surjan has been surviving under artificial life
support since being hit by a terrorist bullet during the
temple attack, would also accompany him to Delhi.
Bhandari, serving as a commando with the 51 NSG was among
the team that was air-dashed to state capital Gandhinagar on
September 24 last year after two heavily armed fidayeens took
seige of the temple and had claimed 33 lives.
Bhandari has been flooded with goodwill messages since
the time he was brought into the ICU ward of the hospital and
recently the Gujarat government also announced that it would
cover the expenses of the commando even when he would be
treated at the Aiims.
