Srinagar, June 23: Jammu and Kashmir government today extended the relief package to border migrants affected by cross-border shelling till September this year, a senior official said today.
The state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed decided to extend the relief package, which expired on March 31, till September this year, state chief secretary S S Bloeria said.
"The farmers living along the border could not sow their Kharif crop this season as a large chunk of land occupied by the army during border-tension was yet to be de-mined," he said.
The cabinet also accorded approval to constitution of a separate cadre of rural engineering wing in the Rural Development Department (RDD).
The RDD has been allowed to develop and manage a limited cadre of rural engineering wing to the extent of 50 per cent promotion posts only till the present incumbents retire.
The chief secretary said the cadre shall be diminishing in nature and no fresh/permanent recruitment at any level either by transfer or by direct recruitment shall be made.
The remaining 50 per cent posts shall be filled by engineers from PWD. When the present incumbents of rural engineering service retire, the cadre shall be managed 100 per cent by deputation of engineers from PWD.
The cabinet also accorded sanction to adoption of rules of PWD for purpose of promotion to various positions in the rural engineering wing against the earmarked quota for promotion posts, he said.
