New Delhi, July 31: Government today informed the Lok Sabha that "some" cases of involvement of money from underworld sources in the film industry have been reported and
action is being taken by its agencies.
Replying to a query during Question Hour, Information and
Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said these cases
were being dealt with by enforcement agencies under the
applicable laws.
He said steps were being taken to facilitate access of the film industry to clean capital. These included specifying of 'entertainment industry' including films as an approved activity for accessing finance under the Industrial Development Bank of India Act.
Replying to another question, he said there was no confusion over CAS as it would be implemented in a zone-wise manner in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata and the entire Chennai from September one. A notification to this effect had already been issued.
The intervening period would be utilised to step up preparedness for smooth roll out of CAS and to educate the subscribers, Prasad said, adding Direct-to-Home and CAS were two different modes which could co-exist and provide consumers a wider choice.
To a question on a comprehensive broadcast policy, he said the Communication Convergence Bill, when enacted, would set up a single regulator to promote, facilitate and develop the carriage and content of communication including broadcasting, telecommunication and multimedia.
