Guwahati, Nov 18: The long-drawn Bodo imbroglio appears to be nearing its end with the creation of the interim Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) but the opposition by the non-Bodos seems to be the thorn in the smooth transition of autonomy to the Bodos in Assam. The BTC will be an autonomous self governing body under the sixth schedule of the constitution to fulfil the economic, educational and linguistic aspirations and preservation of land-rights, socio-cultural and ethnic identity of the Bodos and to speed up the infrastructure development in the areas dominated by them.

Assam government recently issued the notification for the creation of the council and all bodo organisations like all Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Bodo Peoples' Action Committee (BPAC), All Bodo Womens Federation (ABWF) and others have given the Bodo Liberations Tigers (BLT) the power to look into matters relating to the formation of the interim council.

The proposed creation of the BTC has, however, raised the hackles of the non-Bodo organisations and they are protesting under the banner of the Sanmilita Janagoshtiya Sangram Samiti (SJSS) alleging that the council is being formed in total disregard of the majority of the people living in these areas.
