New Delhi, May 19: Amidst reports that he will be the nominee for the post of Prime Minister, Congress leader Manmohan Singh today met CPI-M general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet. The meeting took place shortly after Congress president Sonia Gandhi had parleys on government formation with the veteran CPI-M leader at his residence here.
Party sources said that CPI-M had endorsed the name of Manmohan Singh as the next Prime Minister of the Congress-led government.
Surjeet is believed to have given a list of 44 MPs to Gandhi pledging their support to the Congress-led government. CPI-M leader, according to sources, appreciated the choice of Manmohan Singh for the post Prime Minster suggested by Gandhi.
He is understood to have said that Manmohan Singh was an old Congress loyalists and had a clean image.
