Moscow, Sept 15: Russia had planned a nuclear strike on Israel during the seven-day Arab-Israeli war in West Asia in 1967 anticipating the landing of US troops on Syrian coast, a media report said. "The Soviet submarine K-172 under command of Nikolai Shashkov armed with nuclear missiles was at that moment in the Bay of Sidra and had orders to surface and strike at the Israeli coast if Americans landed troops on the Syrian shores," Pravda.Ru website reported quoting ex-Soviet Navy Captain Nikolai Cherkashin.
K-172 submarine had eight nuclear missiles on board, which would have completely destroyed state of Israel, it said.
