Militants in Manipur have taken upon themselves the task of punishing those encouraging copying in examinations when they shot at seven persons including two invigilators on Monday for helping some candidates taking the class 12 board exams in the second such incident in the last four days. Official sources said two persons, who were helping candidates at an examination centre from outside at Wangoi in west district, were shot in their legs by unidentified militants.
Five others, including two invigilators, were also fired at their arms and legs for a similar action at a centre at Wabagai in Thoubal district, sources said. All the five victims were taken to nearby hospitals.
The underground Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) had said that it would 'punish' those who attempt to help candidates during the examinations. KYKL in a statement had said they would bring 'quality education' in Manipur. On the first day of the examination on March eight, four persons including an invigilator were shot at their legs for helping the candidates by unknown militants, sources said.
