New Delhi, Dec 24: After a gap of eight years, India will again assume next month the presidency of the crucial Conference on Disarmament (CD) in Geneva which will deliberate on ways to move ahead on the fissile materials cut-off treaty (FMCT), prevention of arms race in outer space and a host of other issues. After taking charge, India is expected to engage in wide-ranging consultations with all members to try and restart the substantive work for CD, external affairs spokesman told reporters.
India's representative at the CD Rakesh Sood is expected to takeover as president.
The ensuing round of discussions is expected to firm up a programme of work for the CD which has been plagued by differences that had become evident particularly when the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and NMD came up before it. Bureau Report
