Three policemen were killed when a group of armed Maoists
opened indiscriminate fire at the cops on duty at a busy
market area in B P Chowk in Nepalgunj of Banke district last
evening, state run Radio Nepal said.
In a separate incident, 10 armed police force personnel were injured when their vehicle ran over a landmine, allegedly planted by Maoist rebels in Saljhandi village in Rupandehi district of west Nepal yesterday, sources said.
The injured personnel were airlifted to Kathmandu and admitted at the Birendra Military Hospital at Chhauni.
An extensive search operation was launched following the landmine blast.
Meanwhile, regretting the violence and terror spread by rebels across the Himalayan kingdom, two Maoists committed suicide by exploding a bomb, Radio Nepal said quoting defence sources.
