Jind, June 01: The toll in Gulkani police firing on BKU workers has risen to five with the death of an injured farmer at a hospital in Rohtak this morning, a BKU spokesman said here.
Three farmers were killed on the spot and one succumbed to his injuries at the medical college and hospital at Rohtak last night. Police opened fire on protesting farmers who had blocked the Jind-Hansi road. The farmers continued their sit-in dharna at several places in the district for the 13th day today to press for the release of the arrested farmers and waiving off outstanding power bills.
Most of the roads leading to the district headquarters here, including from Chandigarh, Barwala, Safidon, Rohtak, Hansi and Bhiwani continued to be blocked, sources said. Haryana Roadways has suspended services to the district as authorities advised people to avoid the blocked routes.
Nine farmers have so far lost their lives in protests, BKU sources claimed.
