Patna, Dec 01: Indian Federal Democratic Party
leader and MP Pappu Yadav was among 250 people arrested while
they were attempting to forcefully enforce the bandh here
today to protest the recent attacks on Biharis in Assam.
Police arrested Yadav along with his 100 of supporters
from near Kargil Chowk under Gandhi Maidan police station
while trying to enforce bandh, city superintendent of police O
N Bhaskar told a news agency.
He said around 150 IFDP workers were arrested from the
Dak Bunglow roundabout for disrupting traffic and forcing the
shopkeepers to close their shops during the dawn-to-dusk
bandh.
The protestors jammed bypass road near Saristabad under
Gardanibagh police station area of Patna for several hours.
Later the police arrived and cleared the jam, Bhaskar said.
Most schools in the state capital were closed as a precautionary measure but attendance in central and state government offices and banks was normal. Vehicular traffic was also largely unaffected.
Shops and business establishments in major thoroughfares were closed, but those in residential areas were open.
Police have made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order across the state during the bandh.
