DMK MPs on Monday met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee twice and sought establishment of a central commission to probe alleged police excesses on their workers at a rally in Chennai on Sunday. The MPs led by a Raja, minister of state for health, also demanded that necessary action be initiated against IPS officers responsible for excesses against the DMK workers under the central service rules.
Vajpayee gave a patient hearing, a DMK MP told reporters after the second meeting with the Prime Minister at his residence. Talking to reporters after the first meeting this morning at Parliament House soon after both houses were rocked over the issue, party MP P N Siva said that they told the Prime Minister about the incident including the injuries inflicted on Lok Sabha member V Vetriselvan. He said that the MPs also met Vice President Krishan Kant.
Alleging that there was jungle raj in Tamil Nadu, Siva said that there would not be any security to common people if the existing conditions continued in the state.
The delegation also met home minister L K Advani and briefed him on Sunday’s incidents.
