Ranchi, Aug 05: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker, Inder Singh Namdhari, has appointed former chief minister, Babulal Marandi, as 'chairman of two separate committees – the implementation committee and committee for review of santhal pargana and Chotanagpur tenancy acts. Previously the implementation committee was headed by the Speaker himself while the review committee was led by the then welfare minister, Arjun Munda, now the Chief Minister.

Namdhari announced the decision yesterday while sharing dias with Marandi for the first time since the latter's exit from chief minister's office in march.

Asked how Marandi, by heading both the committees, could do justice as he was in favour of an amendment in the tenancy acts, the Speaker said, ''It does not matter much as the review committee also has other members and its recommendation should be unanimous before sending it to the implementation committee”.
Marandi has sparked a political debate after advocating an amendment in the tenancy acts of the state. Except the Congress, almost all major parties have protested against the suggestion and warned against any change in the acts adopted during British rule.
