New Delhi, Sept 11: The CPI-M today asked the review committee on Pota to recommend repeal of the act altogether alleging it was used for political vendetta and to suppress democratic rights in many states. "There is no need for this extraordinary piece of legislation. The existing laws in this country are sufficient to tackle all situation," CPI-m general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet said in a letter to review committee secretary V P Bhatia. He said many provisions of the Prevention Of Terrorism Act, 2002, could be used against the democratic rights of the people and organisations and were against the fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution.
