Srinagar, June 02: With the reopening of the only surface link to Ladakh last week, Jammu and Kashmir government has started stockpiling essential commodities in the frontier region which remains cut off for over six months in a year due to heavy snowfall. Over 300 vehicles carrying passengers and essential supplies have taken the 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway to Ladakh region during the past two days, official sources said today. These included 46 vehicles loaded with essential supplies and 47 carrying fuel, the sources said. State principal secretary, transport and transport commissioners had a discussion with the agencies responsible for maintaining the highway and are regularly monitoring the movement of vehicles, the sources added.
