Ranchi, June 02: The domicile policy in Jharkhand continues to divide the Congress with AICC general-secretary R K Dhawan today overruling AICC secretary Subodh Kant Sahay's recent statement that the party favoured November 15, 2000 (date of state's creation) as the cut-off mark for a person in the state to become eligible for government jobs. "The Congress will make its stand clear on the issue only after the state government defined the policy as per the high court's directions," Dhawan, also in-charge of Jharkhand affairs, told reporters here. On informing Sahay's statement at a recent press conference that the date of the state's creation should be made as the criterion while redefining the policy, Dhawan said "Congress is a democratic party and every one has his or her opinion. But the AICC working committee is the last decision maker and it would take decision after consulting all party workers". Refusing to spell out the party's stand on the issue, he blamed the Arjun Munda government for the recent violence on May 27. "The government failed to redefine the policy before conducting the tests," said Dhawan. Asked whether the Congress would struck an alliance with the RJD and JMM, he said "the Congress will announce its decision only during election time". Bureau Report
