A large number of children caught in flooding in Bangladesh's frontier districts face major health problems unless they get urgent medical supplies and treatment. Thousands, who were evacuated to a bus terminal in Benapole converted into a crowded makeshift shelter, can be seen with barely any clothes and running noses after spending days in water-logged areas.
Officials say nearly half of the 50,000 flood victims at relief camps in and around Benapole are women and children, and that they are the most susceptible to various illnesses, especially gastrointestinal ones and pneumonia.
