The process for setting up three new high courts for the proposed states of Uttaranchal, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh 'is in an advanced stage.' The acting chief justices of the new high courts would be appointed from within the judges of the respective parent states with the approval of the collegium of judges headed by the Chief Justice of India, sources in the law ministry said on Monday.

While it has already been decided that the high courts of Chattisgarh and Jharkhand would be set up at Bilaspur and Ranchi respectively, the location for the Uttaranchal high court is yet to be decided. In the case of Jharkhand, the existing Ranchi bench of Patna High Court is being expanded and converted into a new high court, the sources said.

The Centre is readying itself to meet all other requirements of the proposed states coinciding with the home ministry notification announcing the dates for the creation of the new states, the sources said. Bureau Report
